Fort Worth & Western Railroad FWWR

Nature of Firm:
The Fort Worth & Western and Fort Worth & Dallas Belt Railroads operate under corporate parent company, Tarantula Corporation, based in Fort Worth, Texas.

Present connections are made with UP, BNSF and South Orient. FWWR handles approximately 20,000 carloads annually. FWWR acquired 6.25 miles of former BN/Frisco trackage in Fort Worth, TX and started freight service in October 1988. An additional 1.5 miles were acquired from MP in 1988 followed by acquisitions from BN of 1.5 miles of track between Birds & Belt Junction which is now joint track between BNSF and FWWR. FWWR then purchased 1 miles of track in the Belt Junction area from ATSF. FWWR leased and purchased 3 miles of track from SP in 1994, bringing total trackage operated to 10.75 miles of track in Fort Worth. In May 1996, FWWR leased 28.5 miles of track from DART with SP Freight Rights between Fort Worth and Carrolton. FWWR's latest acquisition was made in December 1998 when they purchased 134 miles of track from South Orient Railroad between Belt Junction, TX (Ft. Worth) and Ricker, TX. This purchase also included trackage rights over South Orient's 15 miles of line between Cresson and Cleburne, TX and assumption of South Orient lease on 24 miles of track between Dublin and Gorman, TX. FWWR also obtained trackage rights over BNSF between Ricker, TX and San Angelo Junction, TX to maintain access with the South Orient on their Presidio line. Additional trackage rights include those over BNSF between Birds/Alliance, Birds/BNSF North Yard, and overhead rights on BNSF between BNSF North Yard and UP Peach Yard. Track capacity is 286,000 pounds.
