Dallas,
Garland & Northeastern Railroad, INC. DGNO
Nature of Firm:
DGNO operates over a combination of owned and leased rail lines approximately
187 miles including industrial leads. The line extends from Trenton, TX to
Garland, TX, then from Garland to Dallas via trackage rights over KCS and UP.
DGNO also operates from Sherman to McKinney, from Carrollton to Murphy and from
Dallas to Lake Dallas. Of the total trackage, approximately 51 miles are leased
from Dallas Area Rapid Transit (DART), and DGNO leases 129 miles from Union
Pacific. Rail is 90-112 pound. Track capacity is 263,000 pounds. (They can do
286,000 pounds; however, if the movement began to involve any volume, an
increase would be required to offset additional maintenance of way costs.)
Traffic includes aggregates, agricultural and food
products, lumber, paper, scrap paper, scrap metals and auto parts - about 40,000
carloads a year.
DGNO interchanges with UP at Denison for Sherman to
McKinney traffic, at Mockingbird Yard for North Dallas line traffic, at Cadiz
Yard for East Dallas and Garland to Greenville traffic, and Browder Yard for 505
Industrial Lead traffic (Cargill Foods and Laser Materials). DGNO interchanges
with BNSF at Irving, with KCS at Dallas Yard and Greenville, and with TNER at
Trenton.
At the end of 1990, all Class 1 carries in Dallas, Texas
sold necessary trackage to Dallas Area Rapid Transit Property Acquisition
Corporation (DARTPAC). DARTPAC appointed the DGNO as the operator of the
property. The company is leasing the line between Greenville and Garland and has
purchased the former MKT line (abandoned in 1987) from Greenville to Trenton.
The company is a subsidiary of RailAmerica, Inc.
